For a mind that lives in rooms full of counter-players, a person with no game at all is a holiday so complete it feels like falling in love, and often becomes it. The Pig, meanwhile, gets the best dinner theater of its life. Monkeys at the table are brilliant, the stories improve with each telling, the world arrives pre-translated into comedy, and the Pig, generous in laughter as in everything, never tires, never fact-checks, and never competes for the microphone.

Underneath, the harm geometry is already ticking, because each has married a gentler edition of its designated opposite. The Monkey is the Snake's sworn ally and carries the same operating system in a playful chassis, angles, indirection, information released on its own schedule; the Pig has met that system before, across the wheel, in the sign the tables warned it about. The Pig is the Tiger's sworn ally and carries the Tiger's code in soft form, everything open, everything meant, the flank incomprehensible; the Monkey has spent a lifetime being charged at by exactly that code. Neither notices the resemblance for years. The marriage is the slow discovery of it.

So the joke becomes a promise, the improvisation becomes a plan, the tease becomes a verdict on the Pig's cooking or figure or family, and each small contradiction between what was said and what was meant costs a coin from an account the Monkey does not know exists.

The repair is a marking system, agreed early and kept forever. Monkeys will not stop playing, and should not, the play is the gift; but the played and the meant must be distinguishable to a partner who owns no irony detector. The working couples build the plain channel: a tone, a phrase, a standing signal that says this one is real, and everything so marked is delivered straight and kept straight. In exchange, the Pig learns that everything unmarked is weather, enjoyed and released, not filed. One more clause protects the Pig specifically: the teasing stays off the sacred inventory, the Pig's generosity, its body, its people, because those bruises are cumulative and invisible until they are total.

The household is generous chaos, and at its best it is a genuinely happy one: the Pig supplies the warmth, the table, the open door, and the Monkey supplies the sparkle, the scheme, the sudden Saturday improved beyond recognition. Children raised here get fed and entertained in equal abundance, and grow up believing home is where things are warm and funny, which is not the worst inheritance on the wheel.

The money needs a constitution more than most marriages, because the pairing combines the wheel's most persuasive pitch with its least resistant investor. The Monkey generates ventures the way orchards generate fruit, and every one arrives charming, plausible, and urgent; the Pig's yes arrives faster than its arithmetic, and the old counsel, that a Pig should let a harder head review its deals, was written about exactly this dinner table, where the harder head is the one making the pitch. The Monkey closes what charm alone cannot, finds the third option, reads the counterparty; the Pig holds the clients, the staff, the suppliers, all of whom trust the firm because they trust the Pig, having correctly concluded that the Pig is incapable of sharp practice.

The rhyme says never sees it through, and the phrase is precise, because this pairing rarely explodes; it expires. From the Monkey's side, the expiry is boredom of a particular kind: its games need an opponent, and the Pig keeps handing over its whole hand face-up and asking, in effect, what there is to win. Some Monkeys learn, slowly, that this is the prize. The others escalate, testing closer and closer to the sacred inventory in search of an edge, and the edge, when they find it, is the Pig's faith itself, which does not bend under testing but breaks in one piece.

From the Pig's side, the expiry is the re-read. A Pig that has once gone back through the testimony cannot restore the default setting; with this partner, uniquely, it now audits, and a Pig that audits is a Pig operating against its own nature, exhausted by a vigilance it was never built to run. Both partners feel the marriage end long before either names it, the comedy continuing at the table over an account already closed. The prevention is everything above, installed before it is needed: the plain channel, the fenced inventory, the external signature, the Pig's name kept holy. Run that way, the pairing can genuinely last, because underneath the mismatched codes sits real affection, the trickster's one restful room, the believer's best show in town, and neither ever finds the equal of it elsewhere, which even the rhyme, in its weary way, seems to know.
