What the tradition makes of a kua 8
The Mountain That Waits
Your trigram is Gen, the mountain, the youngest son of the trigram family. A mountain does two things supremely well: it does not move when it should not, and it cannot be moved once it has decided. Tradition reads kua 8 people as the reliable ones — slow to commit, immovable after, the friend whose word functions like a signed document. The manuals also read Gen as stillness and study, which is why kua 8 has a reputation as the late bloomer in the kindest sense: the fortune builds quietly, layer on layer, and then one day everyone calls you an overnight success.
West group means your four good directions all sit on the west–northwest–southwest–northeast side of the compass — the sunset half, in the old shorthand.
So what do I actually do?
- Desk: sit so your face points southwest while you work. That's your vitality direction; the old rule is simply "face your luck."
- Bed: point the top of your head west when you sleep, the relationships-and-longevity direction. Can't rotate the bed? northwest (health) or northeast (calm) are the backups.
- Feeling run down: northwest is your recovery direction, face it when you rest, put the reading chair on that side.
- Big conversation coming: take the seat that faces northeast, your own trigram's seat. Steadiest ground in the room, says the tradition.
- What to avoid: don't sleep or work facing southeast if you can help it, that's your worst direction. The other three bad ones (south, east, north) can keep the closets and the laundry.
Triage, not perfection: no real apartment clears all eight directions. Get the bed and the desk right and tradition calls it a win.

Feng shui year: 1990. Digit sum: 1990 → 19 → 10 → 1 → S = 1. Female: 4 + 1 → 5 → 5, and 5 owns no trigram (the center of the grid is empty), so tradition reassigns it: women become 8. Kua: 8.
